Free New Year’s Game

Free Printable New Year's Game

The time between the years is perfect for reflecting on what’s happened and dreaming about what’s next. To make the most of these moments, I’ve created a Free Printable New Year’s Game—a simple, fun way to look back, look forward, and share a few laughs with the people you love.

Whether you're reminiscing, storytelling, or just enjoying some lighthearted banter, this game is perfect for New Year’s Eve celebrations. With easy prompts and no-pressure answers, everyone can join in. Each card offers two choices, making it fun and relaxed for all ages—from teens to grandparents, and even younger kids with a little help.

So grab some snacks (and maybe a little champagne), and get ready to connect, laugh, and celebrate together as you count down to midnight.

What You’ll Need

How to Make the Free Printable New Year’s Game

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Download
Click the link above to grab your Printable New Year’s Game. It includes two pages of cards, each with 12 prompts. One page helps you reflect on the past year (“Old”), while the other inspires dreams for the year ahead (“New”).

  2. Print
Use regular A4 (US letter) paper. To save on ink, you can print in black and white by adjusting the colour options in your printer settings.

  3. Cut
I love using my Trim & Score Board for this type of project, but regular scissors will work just fine.

  4. Fold
Once you’ve cut out the cards, fold them to keep the text hidden.

  5. Mix
Toss all the folded prompts into a bowl, hat, or basket, and you’re ready to play!

Game Rules

  • Gather Your Players:
The more, the merrier! This game works with three people or twenty. For bigger groups, players can toss their cards back into the bowl after answering.

  • Draw a Prompt:
Each player takes turns fishing out a folded card and reading it aloud before answering. Youngest player starts (as decreed by the sacred Bible of Board Game Rules—if such a thing existed).

  • Answer the Prompt:

“Old” Prompts: Reflect on the past year. Example: “Last year, you got caught researching:” (Confess whether it was an obscure celebrity bio or a wild almond milk conspiracy.)

“New” Prompts: Dream big for the coming year. Example: “Next year, you want to learn how to:” (Fix things? Let things go? Share why if you like, or add an example—there’s no wrong or right way to respond.)

  • Share and Enjoy:
Don’t stress about finishing the game. Pause for stories, let the laughs flow, and stop whenever the fireworks (or snacks) call your name.

Why You’ll Love It

This game’s flexibility is what makes it a hit, even with those who usually shy away from board games. You can pause for great stories, debate funny answers, or let everyone take their time thinking. When the conversation takes off, the game flows naturally—no rigid rules, no pressure.

Who knows? This might just become your favorite New Year’s tradition.

Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with laughter, love, and plenty of unforgettable stories to carry into 2025!
